About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Crime Compliance, you will assist in ensuring compliance with relevant Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) regulatory requirements across the business.

The role will have a particular focus on:

  • Anti-Money Laundering (AML)
  • Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF)
  • Sanctions
  • Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC)
  • Tax Transparency

Key Responsibilities

Working with the Manager, Financial Crime Compliance and Head of Financial Crime, Pacific, you will assist with:

  • Preparing and escalating Threshold Transaction Reports (TTR) and International Electronic Funds Transfer Reports (IEFTR) to the FCC Manager before submission to FASU (Financial Analysis Supervision Unit).
  • Identifying and investigating suspicious transactions and activities, conducting assessments, and preparing Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) with appropriate recommendations for review and approval by the MLRO and/or Delegate.
  • Submitting Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) through the FASU Viper Portal within the required regulatory timeframe.
  • Providing subject matter expert advice to the PNG business on SMR-related matters.
  • Reviewing and conducting Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (ECDD) assessments for customers during pre-onboarding or ongoing due diligence processes, as required.
  • Actioning FASU Section 81 notices and requests for customer information.
  • Assisting with Juno matters, including incidents, issues, actions and CSA requirements, as required.
  • Conducting adverse news screening and assisting with updates to internal watchlists.
  • Assisting with the preparation and delivery of Financial Crime Compliance training.
  • Keeping up to date with Financial Crime Compliance policies, standards and procedures, both local and Group-wide, as well as relevant regulatory and legal obligations, including the PNG AML/CTF Act.
  • Performing other delegated duties as required.

What Do I Need?

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 1–2 years’ exposure or experience in Financial Crime Compliance, AML or KYC requirements.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly analytical, with strong research and investigative skills.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to assess and recognise potential risks.
  • Ability to analyse data and transaction records and identify potential red flags or suspicious activities.
  • Ability to conduct detailed assessments of suspicious transactions and produce accurate reports.
  • A general understanding of banking products and applicable systems, applications and technology.
  • Strong work ethic and professional integrity, with a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial crime and customer information.
  • Commitment to Westpac’s Code of Conduct and applicable internal policies.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity and respect while working collaboratively with team members.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and develop professionally.
